February 19th, 2010 by Erato TzavaraIn the context of the Dance on Film Festival, DanceDigital and Thurrock Council commissioned Southend based director David Valentine to create a new film using technology and the unique style of the Methods of Movement crew (James Hall, Joe Livermore) who had worked before with the director in the Duelists.
The finished piece is multi-layered modern interpretation of the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet played out in an on-line chatroom entitled Computer Love (a euphemism for Cyber-Sex and a reference to the Kraftwerk song).

January 12th, 2010 by adminWith the first screening in the series of 3 dance on screen evenings at the Thameside Theatre, Grays this evening, DanceDigital’s staff have made their Top 5 Dance on Camera film selection from recent videos posted to Vimeo.
No.1: Parkour Motion Reel
http://www.vimeo.com/8332956Great short video of flipbook-style parkour – short and sweet!
No.2: Beamvertising Parkour
http://www.vimeo.com/5804471Picked mostly because it made us smile, we liked the mix of virtual and real. Like the parkour flipbook at No.1 this is a great mix of high and low-tech media. The fun is as much in the reactions of people as they realise what is happening as it is in the quality of movement.
No. 3: Danse (Dance)
http://www.vimeo.com/475472Another humourous and low-tech animated piece
No. 4: My Passion, My Job, My Life!!!
http://www.vimeo.com/8149209Great movement – really shows the strength and flexibility that goes into making a good breakdancer.
No. 5: Project52
http://www.vimeo.com/1468211We chose Project52 as our No. 5 as we like the concept. The project is a year-long documentary featuring the dancers and collaborators at Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet presented in 52 one-minute segments.
Interestingly, when we came together to choose the pieces we discovered that most of the pieces we selected didn’t have much Contemporary dance involved. For us, Dance on Film is more about the experience of seeing movement presented in a different way.
